Parking in the Driveway

Monday, April 27th, 2009

It is satisfying that we have finally reclaimed the real estate at the front of the house and can [almost] park in the driveway.  Yeah!

Compaction Testing by HP Inspections

We had HP Inspections perform four compaction tests this morning.  These tests were of the soils that were distributed and compacted on Saturday.  The test results were all over 90% with one test over 95%.  Excellent!

Getting the Dirt on the O’Briens

Friday, April 24th, 2009

The first truckload of dirt from the O’Brien’s site on Reservoir Road arrived at 8:45 am this morning.

Backfilling and Compacting Soil Around the Foundation Retaining Walls

We received 10 truckloads of soil today and had it distributed and compacted in 8 inch lifts.  Given the OSHA cuts at the front of the house, the excavation filled quickly and then progress slowed as more soil and compaction time was required for the same vertical distance.

First load of dirt arrived and was dumped at 8:47 am.

Preparing to Backfill and to Shoot More Shotcrete

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

It was extremely busy today as we are preparing to backfill our excavation and getting ready for our final shoot of shotcrete on Thursday, April 30.

Our project site is extremely cramped due to the OSHA cuts that were excavated for the front and back concrete foundation retaining walls.  Since these foundation walls are now to strength, we can backfill and compact the soil to fill the excavation.  This will provide much-needed real estate at the front of the project site.

The decision yesterday to complete the feature concrete wall in the dining room required additional scaffolding and accelerating part of the schedule.

It is all good.

After the scaffolding arrived, Bill Brown’s team started forming the feature concrete wall in the dining room.
